Here's another quick review from me for the game: Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. This game has been highly acclaimed and is still one of THE best shooters on the market.
Here are the minimum requirements for the game:
- Pentium 4 2.4 ghz or AMD Athlon 64 2800+ processor
- 512MB Ram for XP (768 for Vista)
- 8GB of free space
- Nvidia GeForce 6600 or ATI Radeon 9800 Pro
- 100% DirectX 9.0 compatible sound card
- Internet or LAN for multiplayer
*I highly advise all of you to NOT get just the bare minimum requirements cuz quite frankly, this game is GORGEOUS with everything maxed out.
Story: In CoD4, you play 2 roles: an SAS operative under the command of Cap. Price and you play another role as a United States Marine. Both teams are after a group of terrorists who have stolen nuclear weapons in Russia.
Graphics: Again, this game is downright gorgeous and the action is fast-paced and plentiful. Weapons look very realistic, environment looks crisp and clean, and the physics are great. However, the physics don't do the whole "ragdoll" effect as heavily as certain games like F.E.A.R but they play realistically and don't just throw bodies all over the place. Lighting and shadows are exactly where they should be, dust particles are great, the water looks amazing.
Gameplay: The gameplay in this game is fast, furious, and flat out mean. The AI is responsive and give a good challenge, weapons have a great "feel" to them, and with multiplayer, the replay value is high. Multiplayer is the key in the success of Call of Duty 4 due to fast-paced fighting, tons of unlockables to tweak your character class and weapons around to your liking, and the several gameplay styles. Team Deathmatch, Deathmatch, Search & Destroy (CZ style plant/defuse), Headquarters (king of the hill), Sabotage, and Domination (capture the flag). Some game types require you to be tactical while others only require you to run and gun the hell outta your enemies. The gripe in multiplayer is the lack of maps that really support sniper experts. Another is that those who have unlocked everything have a huge advantage against the newer players. But that doesn't mean that the new players are totally helpless against the veterans.
Sound: Ah yes, the sound. Voice acting is great, explosions are loud (the way they should be), and guns are loud (also the way they should be). Nothing in this game sounds weak.
Overall, this game is near perfect. Again, my gripes are: short ass storyline, some patches have problems (although the latest one is working for me now), and the lack of total freedom to wander your own pathway. There are plenty of servers available to play on (highest number of servers I've seen total is around 20,000)
Score: 5/5 (This game belongs in any first person shooter library)
